A Run – Your Guinea Pig’s Outdoor Playtime
So its really nice outside and its fine to take your guinea pig outside, put him on a leash, tie that to a tree and relax, right? Wrong! Your guinea pig can seriously injure himself struggling against a leash. So what’s the alternative? Something called a “run.”
A run is just a protected area where animals can run around. Basically what you want to do is make an enclosed wood and mesh wire frame that is big enough to give your guinea pigs lots of room to run around, but not so large you have trouble moving it yourself. Remember – the top should not be open as there are aerial predators to be worried about (as well as crafty cats and sneaky dogs.)
Things to remember – you should not leave your guinea pigs unattended in the run. Make sure the run is not positioned over or near any poisonous plants. Just like an indoor cage you’ll want to provide access to a hiding area and water.
